World Cup betting tips for Friday night

Published

The World Cup action is coming thick and fast from North America, and our tipsters have been busy picking out their best bets from Friday' night's action.

Canada’s ruthless 6-0 demolition of Qatar, England's commanding 4-2 victory over Croatia, and Argentina’s routine 3-0 win against Algeria have continued to set a high-scoring baseline for the opening round, while Portugal’s 1-1 stumble against DR Congo exposed the danger of tournament complacency.

Mauricio Pochettino’s USMNT are riding the crest of a wave after their electric 4-1 opening win over Paraguay, bringing a 19-match unbeaten home run to Lumen Field in Seattle.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil must desperately hunt for their attacking rhythm in Philadelphia after dropping points to Morocco, knowing a failure to beat Haiti would mean going winless in their opening two World Cup matches for the first time since 1978.

Steve Clarke's Scotland are chasing a historic second consecutive World Cup victory following John McGinn's winner against Haiti, but face a golden Moroccan generation seeking to repeat their famous 3-0 victory over the Tartan Army from France 1998.

We’ve picked out a handful of bets from Friday’s fixtures that offer value in isolation, and potentially in an accumulator, if you’re feeling confident.

USA vs. Australia

  • Kick-off 8:00pm, Friday, June 19 (Live on BBC)

This might be a shootout for top spot in Group D. The USMNT arrive flying after a 4-1 dismantling of Paraguay, highlighted by Folarin Balogun's lethal brace. Pochettino's side have now racked up a 19-match unbeaten streak on home soil, and they bring that momentum to Seattle, where they are currently on a seven-game winning run.

Australia shocked Türkiye 2-0 on matchday one, securing only their second clean sheet in eight games. Tony Popovic's men executed a flawless mid-block, but they face a historical hurdle here; the Socceroos have lost their last two friendly meetings with the Americans, including a 2-1 defeat in October 2025 where Haji Wright scored twice to cancel out Jordan Bos' opener.

Pochettino is sweating on the fitness of Christian Pulisic, who faces a late assessment on a calf injury, but with Giovanni Reyna waiting in the wings, the hosts boast frightening depth. The statistics heavily favour an entertaining clash, with eight of the USA's last nine games seeing both teams score.

The sheer pace of the US attack presents a completely different problem compared to Türkiye. If the American wide men can isolate the Australian full-backs, especially in transition, the hosts have the firepower to punch through the Socceroos' defence and secure early progression to the knockouts.

Suggested bet: USA to win and both teams to score at 13/5 (3.60)

Scotland vs. Morocco

  • Kick-off 11:00pm, Friday, June 19 (Live on ITV)

Steve Clarke’s men sit atop Group C after John McGinn's strike secured a gritty 1-0 win over Haiti, marking Scotland's first World Cup victory since 1990. However, the Tartan Army now face a severe reality check against a technically elite Moroccan side.

Morocco arrive full of belief after a 1-1 draw against Brazil, where their compact defensive structure and fearless transition play arguably deserved all three points. The history books heavily favour the Atlas Lions, who comprehensively dismantled Scotland 3-0 in their only previous World Cup meeting at France 1998.

The key battle lies in the engine room, pitting Scott McTominay against Azzedine Ounahi's technical brilliance. Morocco are dealing with major injury concerns, as goalkeeper Yassine Bounou is doubtful with an arm injury, while former West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd is struggling. Scotland, meanwhile, could welcome back Scott McKenna from a calf issue.

With eight of the 12 third-placed teams qualifying for the last-32, simply avoiding defeat would virtually book the Scots' spot in the knockouts. However, if Ounahi can bypass the initial Scottish press, he will instantly unleash the blistering pace of Morocco's wide outlets.

It should be a fascinating encounter, and Clarke's men will fight for every ball, but the African side simply possess too much quality in transition for Scotland to keep another clean sheet.

Suggested bet: Morocco to win at 7/10 (1.70)

Brazil vs. Haiti

  • Kick-off 1:30am, Saturday, June 20 (Live on ITV)

Let’s be brutally honest… for a squad boasting five world titles, Brazil's opening display was painfully pedestrian. Dropping points to Morocco in itself doesn’t set off alarm bells, but the performance was far removed from that of a potential World Cup winner.

Carlo Ancelotti knows that failing to win in Philadelphia would mean Brazil have not won either of their opening two World Cup matches for the first time since 1978. And it would put them at risk of an embarrassing exit.

Ancelotti is expected to swing the axe, with Roger Ibanez likely to be replaced by Danilo at right-back after being hooked at half-time against Morocco. Neymar remains sidelined with a calf injury, but a frontline featuring Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo has absolutely no excuses against the team ranked 83rd in the world.

Haiti suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Scotland but were surprisingly expansive, registering 15 shots and recording 22 touches in the Scottish box.

However, the historical gulf between these two nations is terrifying. Brazil have won all three previous meetings with an aggregate score of 22-2, including a 7-1 thrashing at the 2016 Copa America where Philippe Coutinho bagged a hat-trick.

Haiti's dogged defensive performances in recent times have seen their last three defeats all come by a single-goal margin. However, facing an angry Brazil desperate to fix their goal difference is a completely different nightmare. Ancelotti's side have the attacking resources to overwhelm the Caribbean debutants, making an emphatic victory highly likely.

Suggested bet: Brazil -2.75 Asian handicap at 21/20 (2.05)
