Each way places - a tipster perspective

Published

Each way tips offer profit for placed horses, and here's some clarity about whether extra places are allowed to count for the purposes on online tips

With more and more bookmakers offering extra each way places almost arbitrarily in various races, here’s some clarity on the issue from a tipster (and a Tipstrr) perspective.

Put in plain and simple terms, for anyone providing tips on the Tipstrr platform, our policy is to adhere to the basic rulings regarding each way betting, as outlined below.

Each Way Place Rules

  • 2 - 4 runners, all races: Win Only - ie. no other places are covered
  • 5 - 7 runners, all races: 1/4 the odds for the first two places
  • 8 - 11 runners, all races: 1/5 the odds for the first three places
  • 12 + runners, non-handicap: 1/5 the odds for first three places
  • 12 - 15 runners, handicap: 1/4 the odds for the first three places
  • 16 + runners, handicap: 1/4 the odds for the first four places

This means that any extra places offered by a particular bookmaker as part of their own promotion is not recognised for resulting purposes on the Tipstrr platform.

We have to remember that not all of our members will have access to, or even want to use the bookmaker recommended by a tipster. Bookmaker restrictions, a preference for betting in their favourite local high street bookie, or any one of a myriad other reasons could lie behind their decision to use a bookmaker different to the one recommended by a tipster.

Whatever the reason, if they can place a bet where an extra each way place is available, that’s all very well and good for them.  However, if they can’t, then they are going to achieve different results to their tipster, and that disparity does not sit well with us.

Most importantly, the value of a tip is obviously increased by an extra available each way place, but that crucial additional value will not be available to any members who cannot access the appropriate bookmaker.

This policy provides everyone with the same level playing field on which to operate, but more importantly it puts the main priority on fulfilling our responsibility of protecting the welfare of our members.

Tipstrr does reserve the right to review this policy where appropriate and at our sole discretion, but will always announce in advance if any extra places are to be allowed for a particular race. Even then, it will only be where there is across-the-board availability for those extra places among all major bookmakers (eg the Grand National).
