Tipstrr's Premier League prediction competition reaches its sixth week

Another exciting week of Premier League action has come and gone, and if nothing else it showed that even though there were very few major shocks in game week 5, picking correct scores is a tricky business.

For the first time this season our Planet Sport Bet ambassador Robbie Savage failed to land a Correct Score, which gave your Tipstrr team and the guys over at Football365 and TEAMtalk the chance to close the gap slightly at the top .

WEEK FIVE SCORES

  • 11 pts TEAMtalk (1 correct scores, + 8 outcomes)
  • 9 pts Tipstrr (1 correct score, + 6 outcomes)
  • 8 pts Football365 (1 correct score, + 5 outcomes)
  • 7 pts Robbie Savage (0 correct scores, + 7 outcomes)

OVERALL SCORES (after 49 games)

  • 45 pts Robbie Savage (7 correct scores, + 24 outcomes)
  • 39 pts Tipstrr (4 correct scores, + 27 outcomes)
  • 38 pts Football365 (7 correct scores, + 17 outcomes)
  • 36 pts TEAMtalk (4 correct scores, + 24 outcomes)

There’s no Friday fixture this week, nor is there a Saturday lunchtime kickoff, which means that for one week only the Premier League is giving us a taste of the good old days when every game used to kick off at 3pm on Saturday afternoon () .

Tipstrr prediction: Crystal Palace 2 Fulham 1

  • Robbie: 1-0
  • TEAMtalk: 1-2
  • Football365: 2-0

While this might be the London derby that no-one is talking about, both Crystal Palace and Fulham will see this as a chance to build on their promising starts of won two, drawn one, lost two over their first five games.

Palace appear to be as resilient as ever, while Fulham have leaked goals in all but last week’s 1-0 win over Luton, and this game looks likely to follow a similar pattern, with in-form Odsonne Edouard helping the home side look more potent this term.

Latest Betting:

  • 7/1 Correct Score 2-1
  • 17/20 Crystal Palace win

Tipstrr prediction: Luton Town 0 Wolves 1

  • Robbie: 1-1
  • TEAMtalk: 1-1
  • Football365: 0-1

Luton Town are yet to pick up their first points after showing more endeavour than quality in their opening four games, and their only hope would appear to be turning Kenilworth Road into a fortress.

Wolves have only a 1-0 win at Everton to show for their five outings so far, but that return does not really do their overall performances justice, and they look good value to grind out a narrow win here.

Latest Betting:

  • 7/1 Correct Score 0-1
  • 23/20 Wolves win

Tipstrr prediction: Manchester City 3 Nottingham Forest 0

  • Robbie: 3-1
  • TEAMtalk: 3-0
  • Football365: 4-0

Manchester City have hit the ground running with five straight league wins to date, and they have also shown they can dig deep after overcoming half-time deficits to see off both West Ham and Crvena Zvezda with 3-1 wins over the last week.

Nottingham Forest have done well to be mid-table after five games, especially considering they have already visited the Emirates, Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge (where they notably won last time out), and this trip to the Etihad will be seen as something of a free (if ultimately fruitless) hit.

Latest Betting:

  • 11/2 Correct Score 3-0
  • 1/7 Manchester City win

Tipstrr prediction: Brentford 2 Everton 0

  • Robbie: 2-0
  • TEAMtalk: 3-1
  • Football365: 3-0

Brentford continue to punch above their weight, and it took a Newcastle penalty to end their unbeaten start to the season last weekend. They remain a good team to watch, and we can expect them to attack Everton from the off with Thomas Frank’s open brand of football.

Sean Dyche’s Everton already have their backs against the relegation wall, and although three of their four defeats have been by the narrowest of 1-0 margins, their lack of a clinical finishing edge looks likely to drag them into another difficult campaign.

Latest Betting:

  • 7/1 Correct Score 2-0
  • 3/4 Brentford win

Tipstrr prediction: Burnley 1 Manchester Utd 1

  • Robbie: 2-1
  • TEAMtalk: 1-3
  • Football365: 1-2

There will be relief in the Burnley camp after picking up their first point in Monday’s 1-1 draw at Forest, but that will not fully paper over the cracks that saw them concede 11 goals in their opening three league games, all at home, and United’s arrival at Turf Moor will require more disciplined defending.

United have lost three of their opening five league games for the first time since 1989, and Erik Ten Hag will be looking to his players to stop the rot with better quality at both ends of the pitch. This game won’t be easy, though, and he might have to settle for stemming the bleeding with a point.

Latest Betting:

  • 7/1 Correct Score 1-1
  • 3/1 Draw

Tipstrr prediction: Arsenal 2 Tottenham 2

  • Robbie: 2-1
  • TEAMtalk: 2-1
  • Football365: 4-2

Both managers would probably privately settle for a point in this North London derby, but in truth a draw will do neither Arsenal nor Spurs any favours as they look to hang on to Manchester City’s flying shirt tails.

The two clubs share the same record of won four, drawn one after five games, and both have looked adventurous enough going forward to suggest we could be in for an exciting encounter at the Emirates.

Latest Betting:

  • 15/2 Correct Score 2-2
  • 16/5 Drawli>

Tipstrr prediction: Brighton 2 Bournemouth 0

  • Robbie: 3-0
  • TEAMtalk: 3-0
  • Football365: 1-2

Brighton continue to light up the Premier League, with Roberto De Zerbi giving his exciting squad licence to attack at will. That freedom has produced 14 goals in their four wins, and while they came unstuck at home to West Ham before the international break, they are unlikely to make the same mistake in this south coast derby.

Bournemouth are one of five clubs yet to register their first league win this season, but they have done enough in draws with West Ham, Brentford and Chelsea to suggest that Brighton might need to be patient before breaking down the Cherries’ more resilient defence.

Latest Betting:

  • 15/2 Correct Score 2-0
  • 1/3 Brighton win

Tipstrr prediction: Chelsea 1 Aston Villa 2

  • Robbie: 3-1
  • TEAMtalk: 1-2
  • Football365: 1-0

Much was expected of Mauricio Pochettino’s revamped Chelsea team, but after opening their account with an encouraging draw with Liverpool, their only win has come against prospective whipping boys Luton, while a home defeat to Forest and last week’s goalless draw at Bournemouth did little to give the Stamford Bridge faithful cause for optimism.

The Blues face another tricky task here against an Aston Villa team reborn under Unai Emery, and although they are less of a force away from Villa Park, they could well add to the ways of a Chelsea team in transition.

Latest Betting:

  • 10/1 Correct Score 1-2
  • 11/4 Aston Villa win

Tipstrr prediction: Liverpool 2 West Ham Utd 1

  • Robbie: 2-0
  • TEAMtalk: 3-1
  • Football365: 2-1

After a couple of late smash-and-grab wins at Newcastle and Wolves, Liverpool might be running out of get-out-of-jail-free cards, but they have looked back to their old potent selves at home, and the return of Virgil van Dijk from suspension should help stabilise their back line.

West Ham should give the Reds a run for their money as they to bounce back from last week’s 3-1 home defeat to Manchester City, and although they are capable of giving their hosts a scare, it’s hard to see the Hammers taking anything from this tough test.

Latest Betting:

  • 7/1 Correct Score 2-1
  • 2/5 Liverpool win

Tipstrr prediction: Sheffield Utd 0 Newcastle Utd 2

  • Robbie: 2-1
  • TEAMtalk: 0-2
  • Football365: 0-3

Sheffield United have just one point to show for their first five games, but the fact that all of their four defeats were by a one-goal margin suggests they are not far from converting their first win of the season.

Unfortunately, for that to happen the Blades will probably have to wait for lesser opposition than Newcastle, whose early-season woes ended with last weekend’s narrow win over in-form Brentford, followed by their heroic goalless draw in Tuesday’s Champions League visit to Milan. We expect them to shake off those midweek exertions with a solid win at Bramall Lane.

Latest Betting:

  • 13/2 Correct Score 0-2
  • 4/9 Newcastle Utd win
