What people are talking about...

\r\n\r\n

Perhaps the best part about this stage of Wimbledon is that each and every match from this round takes places on the day, which is being dubbed as 'Manic Monday'. We'll have a clear picture of the quarter-finalists come sunset on Monday evening and amongst the contenders are seven of the world's top eight. Wawrinka, Nishikori and Tsonga are gone but there's still a host of top ranking players left in the tournament who should provide some real entertainment

The Wimbledon court fiasco seems to go on and on. Today the officials have been backed up by the groundskeepers themselves who have defended the condition of the court. Plenty of restoration work took place during a Sunday of rest and despite lacking grass in some areas due to the hot weather, officials were reluctant to accept that the quality of play and safety the court provides is compromised this year whilst citing that players who lose regularly blame the unfamiliar grass court. Granted that has been the case in recent years, but that statement seems a bit misplaced in this argument given the horrific injury that sparked it.

What the odds are saying...

\r\n\r\n

Andy Murray, Roger Federer, Milos Raonic, Marin Cilic and Novak Djokovic are the five players with the odds weighing most heavily in their favour, all priced at 1/4 or better. None of these top ranked players is adjudged to have that tough a match on their hands but there's no doubt one could fall by the wayside and at least one of these games could be a five-set thriller and any bets should perhaps be placed with caution.

\r\n\r\n

The action gets underway at the slightly later time of 13:00 on the men's side of things with Roberto Bautista-Agut getting proceedings underway against world number seven Marin Cilic. Cilic is favoured at best odds 1/4 but much like we alluded to the potential shock in waiting when Querrey met Tsonga, odds of 4/1 on Bautista-Agut don't reflect the similar chances of an upset here. After all, the Spaniard ranks in the top 20 himself and has been playing some wonderful tennis.

Explain this one. Angelique Kerber is world number one for a reason and will herself admit to having had had a troublesome year.\r\n She was eliminated in the first round of the French Open and hasn't won a tour all year. She has a tough task against the young and exciting Garbine Muguruza who is number 14 in the world and on the rise. She's been in the much better form also, so a win for the youngster would not be a shock. But Kerber is, as we say, number one for a reason. After a tough year, what better time to prove doubters wrong? Doubters seem to include the oddsmakers in this case as Kerber is an outside who can be backed as high as 16/11.
