Birmingham City had won only one of their previous thirteen Championship games going into last weekend (Drawn 3, Lost 9), a dismal run of form that saw them slide into the bottom three. Saturday's trip to fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday was a true relegation six-pointer, and Birmingham benefited from their opponents being reduced to ten men early in the second half, an advantage they exploited with a crucial 1-0 win. That victory eased them out of the drop zone, albeit only because Wednesday were deucted six points at the start of the season.
Blues will have their work cut out to earn back-to-back successes against a Norwich City with automatic promotion clearly in their sights. Since suffering a four-game slump a month ago (Drew 2, Lost 2), the Canaries have earned maximum points from their last three outings, although they were made to work hard for Saturday's 1-0 win against relegation candidates Rotherham United. That was the same scoreline by which Norwich beat Birmingham in their reverse fixture in October, and they would be more than happy for a repeat of that result to cement their seven-point cushion at the top of the table.
